for whom    for whom
-Mk Ultra

I
before the crack of dawn from the top of tree
a crow caws
he carries on and on and on
he shouts with a sentinal's call to arms
for years and years and years
just before the crack of dawn
he cries    lost arms   lost arms
the crack turns red
many clicks over
the next crow calls
the next in line
and out and across and deep
the next crow calls

up up up leaps the sun
racing with scarlet crescendo
to catch the fleeting blue tresses of night
up up up claws the sun
over and over up up up
always just a twilight away
always as a crow flies just before the dawn
always he calls with such gleeful cuss

escape seek    escape seek
seek escape    seek escape

II
i can't get away from the crows
they know i walk the path
to the creek in the morning
then return when the crickets

begin their vesperous chants
i can't shut out the crows'
mockings their coughing their warnings
i can't spy their suspended feather

without feeling awed by the visions
of shamen my grandfather and Jung
when three crows fly into the east
they explode and create the night

III
how can one be certain
the question made all freeze
the question created more questions
someone dared ask
if the question was the answer
ALL GASP
the crows fly into the distance
everyone of them fly
till their wings give out
then they begin their weary
flight back to the boughs
on all four sides they watch
wary of the guns
on all four sides they are

the watchers    the black
the winged       the depraved
the wanters      the needy
the have          the nots

the compassionate weep
that is what they do
they bring flowers colored blue
they are the welcoming party
to Jung's town
sitting on branches of oak birch pine
sitting black against orange mornings
their shadows fall into a red evening
